This is celebrated because our Indian constitution came into force on 26th January 1950, from then onward this day is celebrated as a republic day in all over the country with great pomp and show. The festival is celebrated in all school, colleges, hospital, bank, office and all other kinds of government and private organisation by hoisting our Indian national flag and singing our national anthem. On this day our honourable prime minister hoist our national flag in Red Fort, Delhi. The day is celebrated as a national holiday. Republic day is celebrated all over India on 26th January. In this day our country gained its own constitution in the year 1950. We celebrate the Republic day every year to honour the date when the constitution of India came into force. The constitution of India replaced the government act of India 1935 as a governing documentary of India on the date 26th January 1950. A special parade is held on this day at Rajpath, New Delhi. All the wings of Indian Armed Forces take part in this parade, Our honourable president hoists Indian national flag. Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar is known as the father of Indian constitution. The main reason for our Indian constitution as a governing document is because India is a very vast country with various cultural and social diversities, different people belonging to different regions. So all the issues, beliefs and actions may not agree, therefore the constitution provides a set of rule, principles and laws acceptable to almost all, as the basis of life and governance of the country. It is a multipurpose document which caters to our needs, requirement, future aspirations and the ideals set before us.

The constitution assembly spent 2 years 11 months and 18 days to complete the final draft of the constitution. It was a very large impact to be a republic country for India. After freedom, Mr Jawaharlal Nehru became the 1st Prime minister of India and Mr Rajendra Prasad became the 1st president of this republic India. The government of India has declared the Indian republic day as a national public holiday. The Indian national flag is hoisted on this day and the national anthem is sung.
